Director: Desmond Davis
Release Date: December 1967
Without any elaboration the Grimsby Daily Telegraph noted, 24 May 1967, that Lynn Redgrave and Rita Tushingham had been on location ‘in a none-too-exotic part of London’s Chalk Farm’. The Daily Record was equally vague, 13 June, when adding that the stars ‘had to duel with custard pies on location at a pie shop in Hampstead, London.’ The Liverpool Daily Post, 19 June, reported that Redgrave had filmed on location in ‘Carnaby Street, London’s mod fashion centre.’ The Grimsby Daily Telegraph, 21 July, vaguely recorded that Redgrave had been filming ‘on a demolition site in North London’. On 13 October the Middlesex County Times reported that ‘For twelve hours on Monday night, [9 October] Clifton House, Uxbridge Road, West Ealing, became the “base of the Post Office tower in Bloomsbury.” A film producer had decided that it made an adequate substitute and its use as an outdoor location attracted hundreds of spectators.’ The report added that Michael York was the only star ‘on call’ who ‘came first and was away comparatively early.’ Whilst there’s nothing to identify the location in the film the Westminster & Pimlico News noted, 10 November, that scenes had been filmed below decks on a Thames sailing barge ‘now moored at Grosvenor Road, Pimlico’. In the film it shows Tushingham and York when supposedly inside his much smaller canal narrow boat.
