This Website depicts London locations used in twentieth century feature films that are listed in a chronological order. London ‘signifiers’, e.g. Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus etc., have been omitted when used solely to identify the film’s location, while playing no active role in the film. These same locations are, however, noted when used as a meaningful cinematic location. Unidentified locations, presumed to show London, are featured in anticipation of future identification and in this regard your help is welcomed via contact@londononlocation.co.uk.

What is London? London is defined by the current 32 London Boroughs, plus the City of London, covering Hillingdon in the West to Havering in the East and from Enfield in the North to Croydon in the South. While the London Boroughs were only established in 1965 many of the out-lying areas had long been integrated into ‘Greater London’, primarily through services provided by numerous London based public transport companies offering road and rail services. One of the bigger concerns, the London General Omnibus Company, mention on at least one map that their service ‘Covers London and Extra London.’ On 13 April 1933 these private companies were consolidated as the London Passenger Transport Board establishing a uniform transport system across what is now the area comprising the 32 London Boroughs. That area is used to define London throughout the listings that will continually be added to.
