An unseen film. On 13 June 1935 the Kinematograph Weekly reported that ‘Cameramen have been filming well-known London landmarks for John Baxter’s “Jimmy Boy.” The action of the film, having started in Ireland, moves with Jimmy O’Dea to London. For these sequences cameramen have obtained shots of Jimmy O’Dea crossing Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. Special permission was granted by the Irish Free State authorities to film the Piccadilly Circus scenes from the Commissioner’s offices in Regent Street. At the back of the historic church of St. Martin in the Fields Jimmy O’Dea stood looking up at the newspaper cuttings advertising jobs while cameramen working from a window on the opposite side of the alley recorded Jimmy in the company of genuine out-of-works who were quite unaware that they were being filmed. These other scenes express vividly the noise and bustle of London traffic and include many backgrounds familiar to Londoners all over the world.’
