On 17 May 1947 the Herald of Wales reported that ‘Solicitors’ clerks and other members of the legal profession on their way home from work in Lincoln’s Inn Fields the other day have been stopping to watch preliminary “shooting” of [Ray] Milland and Ann Todd in scenes for the forthcoming “So Evil My Love.” A few days ago I saw Milland in Chelsea dressed in the habit of the ‘nineties and driving a hansom cab. “So Evil My Love” is a murder story of the turn of the century, and to make the exterior scenes authentic the local borough obliged…the film company by turning off the electric street lamps. The gas lighting was effected by the property department, as was a plaster wall erected in the middle of the street to reduce its width. Somewhat incongruous sight was a Corporation water-cart preceding Milland’s hansom to give the impression of a wet night. In actual fact, the night chosen was one of the few dry ones London has had in recent weeks.’
