It was reported in The Stage, 17 January 1963, that ‘location work starts in London on January 28 and the unit moves into Shepperton studios from February 6 to March 6.’ Sean Treacy later recalled in A Smell of Broken Glass, 1973, p126, that ‘Film director Joe Losey decided to use the Queen’s Elm and me in his award-winning film, The Servant. The pub played itself. I played a barman, prompting the snidery from some of my customers that I was more often behind the bar on celluloid than in life.’
