Ned Sherrin, the producer of the film, later noted in his Ned Sherrin: an autobiography, 2006, p215, that ‘our only serious problem was to find a hospital in which to make the film. The Ministry of Health declined to help. We found a condemned barracks in Woolwich which was beautifully converted into an antiquated hospital.’ The building was the Red Barracks which stood immediately south of Borgard Road and east of Francis Street, Woolwich.
