On 6 December 1953 The People reported that ‘Passengers on the electric trains that flashed in and out of Moorgate-st. Station in London the other night saw a man spreadeagled on the live rail across the tracks. The “victim” was John Ireland, one of the stars of “The Good Die Young.” Among the crowd was Richard Basehart. So the passengers need not have worried.’ While the scenes described above are very dark and very anonymous the film makers did shoot scenes on the platform at Aldersgate and Barbican Station which they disguised as ‘High Street.’ Captures 1, 3, 5 etc. come from a Wienerworld dvd which appears to show the full extent of the image at the top and bottom of the frame. Captures 2, 4, 6 etc. come from the later BFI issue which, while generally showing a clearer and slightly wider image, manages to crop out the top and the bottom of the frame.
