In The Liverpool Echo, 2 October 1953, Gerald Bowman reported that ‘Down London’s Clerkenwell way a few days ago I came upon’ Dirk Bogarde, Donald Sinden and Kenneth More ‘throwing bags of soot and flour at certain other young gentlemen who returned the compliment with interest’ while adding that ‘The Clerkenwellians turned out in force to cheer them on.’ With the scenes completed they ‘departed for University College.’
