The Daily Express, 22 April 1969, reported that ‘Busker Bette Davis turned up with a cello in Charing Cross Road last night… complete with two music “teachers” and one little green bag. She planted a folding chair at the head of the queue outside Wyndham’s Theatre, opened the bag and waited for the money to roll in. And the cameras to roll.’ The report noted that ‘The crowds pushed forward. The police pushed back. Busking Miss Bette went to work on the ‘cello.’
