The News Chronicle, 9 April 1959, reported that location ‘Work starts tomorrow – at Kingston-on-Thames. Then come the R.A.F.’s big day [with filming at RAF Abingdon, Oxfordshire], and on Sunday [12 April] it’s London’s turn. Filming begins on the Embankment near Scotland Yard at 6 a.m. and later at St. Pancras Station.’ On 11 April the Manchester Evening News added that the French actor Jacques Charrier had been filming ‘At Elm Lodge, [230] Petersham [Road], where the English sequence of this French film is being shot, the green lawn was cluttered with French and English film technicians and actors and French voices mingled with the chorus of bird songs from the trees.’ The reference to shooting at Kingston-on-Thames remains obscure but may refer to Elm Lodge, Petersham, which is somewhat north of Kingston.
