On 24 April 1935 The Era reported that ‘”The Silent Passenger” takes place in the environment of a railway station, and work on the interiors has already begun at Ealing. Very valuable co-operation has been given for exterior shots by one of the major railway companies, and early in May night work will commence at a big London terminus. Many other shots have been taken both on the permanent way other departments of railway transport.’ The seemingly anonymous railway company was the London and North Eastern Railway while the equally anonymous London terminus was Liverpool Street. The same publication noted, 15 May 1935, that during filming there was a ‘Spot of excitement down at the L.N.E.R. Stratford depot last evening when a driver and his mate had a fight on a moving engine, during which they both toppled off. The engine went on, to crash through some doors, and out on to the main line unattended.’ The fight in the film did not involve a driver and his mate and while the engine did crash through a door it appears very unlikely that it reached the main line unattended.
