On 14 July 1932 the Kinematograph Weekly reported that ‘A camera unit despatched from the A.R.P. Studios at Ealing to take pictures for the new Flanagan and Allen comedy “The Bailiffs,” in one of the local streets had quite a little adventure. The story is taken from one of the Fred Karno sketches, “Meredith We’re In,” which deals with two comic bailiffs who lose their warrant and get into the wrong house. A pretty little villa had been picked for the locale, and the sound truck and camera van had been pulled up at the curb, and all the equipment unloaded. The front garden looked like a miniature Hollywood. The first inkling that something was wrong came about when it was discovered that the key supplied by the house agents, who had loaned the residence, did not fit. However, this was overcome by forcing the back door.’ It’s unclear what a ‘miniature Hollywood’ garden looks like but this unnamed location was Corringway, Ealing.
